PRIVACY · PUBLIC BETA

Your shelf is not our dataset.

The app is designed to do the sensitive-looking work in your browser. This page explains the limited network requests that remain.

Last updated: 26 August 2026. Worth the Hype is currently an independent, non-commercial public beta. It does not sell products or services and has no active affiliate tracking, sponsorships, advertising or analytics.

Camera and photos

Camera permission is used only when you open the barcode scanner. Video frames and uploaded barcode photos are processed locally by browser barcode-detection code. Worth the Hype does not upload, store or receive those images. Closing the scanner stops the camera tracks.

Product search and barcode lookup

When you submit a product or brand search, that text is sent directly from your browser to Open Beauty Facts, Open Food Facts and the US National Institutes of Health Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD). If you select a DSLD match, its public label ID is used to retrieve the full label record. After a retail barcode is decoded, the numerical barcode is sent directly to the Open Facts ecosystem with cross-project lookup enabled. Those third-party services receive the query and ordinary connection information such as your IP address, time, browser/network metadata and referrer according to their own privacy practices. Do not enter personal or medical information. Check Open Food Facts privacy information and the HHS privacy policy.

Submitted product links

When you submit a retailer or brand product-page URL, it is sent to a same-origin Cloudflare Pages Function. The function removes common advertising tracking parameters, rejects local/private/IP destinations and non-HTTPS links, and tries the public page and supported commerce-platform data without your retailer cookies or login. It does not use a paid page-rendering service. If neither source provides usable product data, the app may infer a product name from the URL and offers name search, barcode scan or manual entry instead. The app returns only product fields such as name, brand, structured price, barcode and ingredients; raw page HTML is not sent to your browser. The target website receives a request from Cloudflare and applies its own terms and privacy practices. If the result includes an image from an approved retailer or image host, your browser may request that image directly, so that host receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address and referrer. Do not submit basket, checkout, account, personalised, invitation or otherwise private links. Responses are marked not to be stored by browser or CDN caches.

Labels, claims and receipts

The label form and scoring run in the browser. They are not submitted to a Worth the Hype server. If you choose “Save to my shelf”, up to 20 receipts are stored in this browser’s local storage. Clear them individually in the app or clear site data in your browser. Sharing or downloading a receipt happens only when you choose it.

Hosting and security data

Cloudflare provides DNS, content delivery, Pages hosting, security controls and the product-link function. It may process standard connection and security data—including IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user agent and abuse signals—to deliver the site, prevent misuse and diagnose faults. This processing is necessary to provide and secure the public beta and is based on the legitimate interest in operating a reliable service. Worth the Hype does not export these request logs into a separate database or use them to build visitor profiles. Cloudflare determines retention for data held in its systems under its privacy policy.

Advertising and affiliate links

There are no active affiliate links, sponsorships or advertising in the public beta. Product-source and retailer links are ordinary, untracked links. Commercial features must not be enabled until this notice, the commercial policy and any required consent controls have been updated. Scan, claim, ingredient and receipt data must never be passed as advertising-targeting parameters.

Analytics

No analytics service is enabled in the shipped version. If privacy-preserving measurement is added later, this notice and any required consent controls must be updated before deployment.

Accounts, children and health information

There are no user accounts. The tool is for a general adult audience and is not directed to children. Do not paste names, diagnoses or other personal information into the label field; the checker does not need them.

Your rights and contact

Local browser data is under your direct control. Depending on your location, you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction or objection concerning other personal data. Email privacy@worththehype.fyi with a privacy question or request. UK visitors may also raise concerns with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Public-beta boundary: no account, mailing list, analytics profile or commercial tracking record is created by Worth the Hype. This notice must be reviewed before any of those features are introduced.
